Pre Stock Market Report, September 24, 2020

  1. Yesterday, our markets were highly volatile.
  2. Dollar Index above 94, FII selling of Rs 2000 crore in Cash market, Negative Asian clues, etc.
  3. But KKR investment in Reliance Retail news and Reliance JIO bundling mobile post paid plan with Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar, Netflix, triggered short covering in Reliance.
  4. SO markets were in good shape, until FIIs press the sell button.
  5. Bank Nifty fell 500 points, Nifty fell 200 points.
  6. Then DIIs seems to have entered and bought heavily.
  7. That triggered a powerful short covering, in a matter of few minutes, Bank Nifty shot up 500 points from the low.
  8. So traders stop loss was hit on both sides.
  9. Bank Nifty future is at 120 points premium, that too just one day before expiry.
  10. That shows the power of short covering.
  11. All these Drama happened when European and US futures were firmly in Green.
  12. US markets opened, Dow was up about 175 points, from there, sell off came and Dow closed 525 points.
  13. From intraday high to low, Dow fell about 750 points.
  14. Now SGX Nifty is below yesterday's low of 11028.
  15. Which means, again Bank Nifty below 21000.
  16. One more very important thing, markets are not paying attention right now, that Trump said he will not hand over the power peacefully, in case if he loses the election.
  17. US Political tension, no Corona Virus vaccine so far, no progress in US Stimulus, stretched valuations, all contributing to the fall.
  18. Nifty is likely to open around 11000.
  19. India VIX may shoot up.
  20. This will be a huge gap down.
  21. SGX Nifty has already hit 11000.
  22. We should be happy if Nifty expires above 11000.
  23. FIIs have sold for Rs 2000 crore day before yesterday, Rs 4000 crores yesterday, this kind of selling do not stop immediately.
  24. So markets now clearly, "Sell on Rise"
  25. Any recovery, I am planning to sell Call options.
  26. Reliance could not sustain at higher levels.
  27. With many front line stocks have already fallen 15 to 20%, it will be interesting to see how much more downside can be there from here.
  28. DIIs are likely to support the markets if Nifty breaks 11000.
  29. So 10980 is an important level.
  30. Nifty future may trade between 10980 and 11150.

Understanding Gaps in the market and trading them !!

Common Gaps Sometimes referred to as a trading gap or an area gap, the common gap is usually uneventful. In fact, they can be caused by a stock going ex-dividend when the trading volume is low. These gaps are common (get it?) and usually get filled fairly quickly. "Getting filled" means that the price action at a later time (few days to a few weeks) usually retraces at the least to the last day before the gap. This is also known as closing the gap. Here is a chart of two common gaps that have not been filled for while but now filled up . Notice that after the gap the prices have come down to at least the beginning of the gap? That is called closing or filling the gap. A common gap usually appears in a trading range or congestion area, and reinforces the apparent lack of interest in the stock at that time. Many times this is further exacerbated by low trading volume. Being aware of these types of gaps is good, but doubtful that they will produce a trading opportunities. Brea...

The Force is Within You, Luke. It’s Not the Trading System.

There are only a handful of people who give a darn about supplying traders with a way to be more disciplined and focused in their trading.  I’m one of them, so I think I know why there are so few of us.  Heck, I’m in the business of supplying traders with a tool to help improve the mental side of the trading equation… the “human” element.  With (what I think) is such an important service, why am I out here virtually alone?  For a couple of reasons.    First, although most traders will admit that the mental part of trading is key to winning in the long-term, most believe they can “gut it up” and just “shake it off” when negative emotions and behaviors rear their ugly heads.  They don’t need a shrink!  They know what they need to do and by-cracky, they’ll do what needs to be done without any help!  I call this the Macho Syndrome And what’s funny is… I get most resistance to the notion of mental discipline (as formal training) from those t...
